wineX is a crappy attempt by a company called Transgaming to emulate Windows AND DirectX on Linux... It sucks pretty bad, yet some people swear by it.

Sure, it can run a couple games playably, but not nearly as many as everyone says it can. And the games that it does run are not games I want.

Keep in mind that this was when I believed in WineX and wasn't against it.

If you don't wanna read that, it's okay, I'll summarize it here:
- Debian was going to package the freely downloadable version of WineX (CVS) and distribute it
- the WineX license permitted this, so everything was a go.
- Transgaming found out, and flipped.
- Transgaming threatened to change the license to prohibit distribution if Debian went ahead with it.

That's very childish and stupid.

On top of that, Transgaming has released "ports" of games called Kohan and The Sims. None of the games are actually ported, but they come packaged with a specially tweaked version of WineX. If you find the game executable and examine it with the program "file" it shows you that it is a 32-bit Windows executable, not an ELF Linux binary. That is NOT porting. And the performance of Kohan Immortal Sovereigns SUCKS compared to the Loki NATIVE port of Kohan Immortal Sovereigns.

And now what Transgaming is doing is they've taken all the Linux users' money, and they're "porting" a PS2 game called Spyhunter to Mac and Windows. Does this make sense to you? So what do Linux users get out of that? Oh, they get to buy the Windows version of a game from a supposed Linux company, and they can try running it in WineX... That's great.

I hope you now better understand what WineX is and why some people like myself, boycott it.
